A little rest is good, but a lot? Not so much! Studies have found that immobilization and prolonged rest is extremely harmful to joints and ligaments.
In one study, they found that ligaments immobilized for a few weeks showed ultimate load, linear stiffness, and energy-absorbing capacity of ligaments was reduced to about one-third of normal! That’s bad :(
Fun facts – in recent studies, prolonged rest led to 40% of people in pain 1 year later, an 87% risk of re-injury and 66% of people in pain for life!
