The Wrist Joint
The wrist joint is a joint in the human body that connects the hand to the forearm. It is located at the distal end of the forearm, proximal to the hand.
A wrist joint can be classified as a synovial joint.. This is important, because synovial joints are the most movable joints in the human body. They allow for a wide range of motion and are found in the hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and hips.
In addition, the synovial membrane has a lubricating fluid called synovium which acts as a cushion for the bones. The fluid also contains nutrients and blood vessels which help to keep the joint healthy.
All of this leads up to what causes carpal tunnel syndrome and how you can heal chronic wrist pain
What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
About 16 million people in the United States (approximately 5 percent) have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which occurs when the Median nerve is compressed as it travels through the wrist.
The Transverse Carpal Ligament looks like a tunnel that runs across the wrist. And while there are plenty of nerves and ligaments that go through the wrist and into the hand, the median nerve is the only nerve that runs through the carpal tunnel.
Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome can have a debilitating affect on your wrist, hand, and even the ring finger, index finger, etc… The main carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms are numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness in the hand.
There will be pressure on the median nerve, because it will be squeezed as it passes through the carpal tunnel ligament in the wrist. This causes pressure on the nerve and can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.
The following are some of the common factors that contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome:
- Obesity
- Connective tissue disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes
- Certain medications
- Age
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment
Research has shown that rehab is the most effective way to heal carpal tunnel syndrome and protect against developing carpal tunnel syndrome. A high quality carpal tunnel syndrome rehab program fixes the underlying muscle imbalances that cause carpal tunnel syndrome and allows for carpal tunnel release. (American Journal of Physiology, Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, Journal of Athletic Training, etc.)
For example, rehab will help you take the stress OFF the wrist joint and improve nerve gliding. And remember, when you open up the Carpal Ligament properly, the Median nerve can travel through it uncompressed. And of course, that will eliminate the pain and muscle atrophy in the hand.
It is important that you diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome before beginning any kind of rehabilitation program, because you want to make sure there isn’t something more serious going in your wrist. For example, in some rare cases, a person may require carpal tunnel syndrome surgery.
Once you get carpal tunnel syndrome diagnosed, your doctor will be able to tell you if you need carpal tunnel surgery or if a rehab program is a good option. In most cases, the answer will be that rehab is an excellent option.
You can either do physical therapy (a good, but expensive and time consuming option) or you can do our at home Carpal Tunnel Rehab Program. It was designed to heal carpal tunnel syndrome fully & fast. It is an all natural option that you can do entirely at home in 3 easy steps. Please, see the video below to learn more…
